App-based public bicycle sharing system launched

The public bicycle sharing service can be availed through a mobile app called “Yaana”.

With an objective to promote cycling in the state, Imphal Smart City Limited on Tuesday launched an app-based public bicycle sharing system at Kangla Nongpok Torban (near Sanjenthong Bridge).

Attending the function as chief guest, MAHUD Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh, said that everyone must be well aware about how cycling can keep one physically healthy and reduce pollution. As such, everyone is encouraged to cycle instead of just relying on motor vehicles, he said.

He further said that this initiative will also help tourists who are coming to attend the upcoming Sangai Festival in their commuting from one place to another.

Presenting keynote address, CEO of Imphal Smart City Limited Th Harikuma, said that bicycles was one of the best modes of transportation at one point of time but that phase is completely gone and replaced by motor vehicles. However, with the increase of health and environment change consciousness, many bicycle enthusiasts have come up nowadays. To promote this good change, an app-based bicycle sharing system is being launched, he said.

He further said that the service can be availed through a mobile app called “Yaana” and that one has to register on the app using mobile number and password.

One can start riding this GPS-enabled bicycle by scanning QR code using the start button which will unlock it and if the user has minimum balance. Location of the parking station will be visible on the map, he added.

He also informed that Yaana App will provide information like rates, wallet balance, rides details, station location, number of bicycles available in each station, number of free slots available in each station and help centres.

He said that monthly membership charges of this service are Rs 149 with security fee of Rs 100. For non-membership users, the charges of using a bicycle are Rs 10 for using up to 30 minutes, Rs 15 for up to 1 hour, Rs 25 for up to 2 hours, Rs 45 up to 4 hours and Rs 80 for up to 8 hours.

For membership users, no charges up to 30 minutes, Rs 7 for using up to 1 hour, Rs 15 for using up to 2 hours, Rs 35 for using up to 4 hours and Rs 70 for up to 8 hours, he added.

Other dignitaries who attended the function were commissioner of MAHUD, M Joy Singh and medical superintendent of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal who is also Bicycle Mayor, Imphal Nepram Sanjib Singh as functional president and guest of honour respectively.
