President of the Apunba Manipur Kanba Ima Lup (AMKIL) L Nganbi on Wednesday condemned authorities’ alleged disregard to capture the culprits involved in the abduction of two student leaders and raised suspicion whether the state government had given a free hand on kidnapping people.

“The state government should take necessary actions to stop such incidents in the near future,” she told the media in front of the chief minister’s bungalow.

Representatives of AMKIL were denied permission to meet the chief minister in connection with the abduction of two student leaders.

Officials at the chief minister’s bungalow denied the meeting as AMKIL had reportedly “failed” to seek an appointment beforehand.

Fuming over the chief minister’s alleged refusal to meet the representatives, AMKIL president L Nganbi highlighted that the representatives had come to meet the chief minister to discuss the memorandum they had submitted regarding the abduction of Haridev.

Nganbi warned that intense agitations would commence if the government failed to retrieve Haridev, demanding the outfit which abducted the students to release Haridev unconditionally else intensified agitations will be taken up.

She stated that such reckless action during the conflict could spring up unwanted issues which could lead to more problems.

It may be mentioned that presidents of two different student bodies were reportedly abducted by the members of an outfit near the main gate of Manipur University around 3 pm Tuesday.

As per report, one of the students was released at an undisclosed spot in Phayeng, Imphal West but the other student identified as one Kongbrailatpam Haridev Sharma has not been released yet.
