Questioning if the ‘double-engine’ BJP government is for burning houses, the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) on Sunday said that due to Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s different point of speech for hills and valleys, more violence erupted in the state after he left.

Speaking to the media at Congress Bhavan on Sunday, MPCC president Meghachandra said that the ongoing crisis in the state is fuelled by the central paramilitary forces who sided with one group, thus escalating the crisis in the state.

“People are confused as to why the government has failed to co-ordinate the Central forces and the state forces even after the union home minister announced ‘Inter-Agency Unified Command’ under the chairmanship of Advisor Kuldiep Singh,” Meghachandra said.

He questioned why the Assam Rifles and Manipur police confronted each other at Sugnu Police Station when they were supposed to be working together. In connection with the confrontation, Sugnu Police has taken up an FIR (No. 33(6) 2023 Sugnu police station under sections 166/186, 189, 342/353/506/34), Meghachandra said.

It is clear that the central and state forces are working on different lines at Dolaithabi area in Imphal West district, Trongloubi area in Bishnupur district and Sugnu and Serou in Kakching district, he added.

People want to know the details of the report for these incidents, Meghachandra said, adding that when Union Home Minister Amit Shah came to Manipur, he expressed hope that under unified command, peace would come but that version has now become opposite. After the union home minister left Manipur, violence increased day by day, he added.

In Serou, 200 houses were burned including the house of MLA K Ranjit in the presence of Assam Rifles and Manipur Police, Meghachandra said.

“Crisis in Manipur can be solved in a week if we combine force and move forward with ceasefire talk or if required, by using force,” the MPCC president said.

All communities of the state are facing the impact of violence but the prime minister of India is silent, he said, adding that the PM reacted very quickly to the Orissa incident and did not react when Manipur was bleeding.

Working president Debabrata said that security forces were unable to prevent an attack on MLA’s residence and questioned how will the people trust security forces for their protection.

“People began to snatch weapons for their own protection due to lack of security installation and this is very shameful for the government,” he said.

Stating that lifting of blockade on national highways for a few days is a challenge to the government, Debabrata said that it affects the sovereignty of the country and hence, action should be taken up according to constitutional merit.
