The All Manipur Gorkha Students’ Union (AMGSU) has imposed strict restriction on the involvement of Gorkha youths, students, seniors, children, etc in conducting fund raising activities by blocking roads with/without ropes during Holi (Yaoshang) festival.
Union publicity secretary Homnath Chapagain said that the union is totally against the practice of any forms of disturbance to the commuters as there is no such custom among Gorkha community to collect money on the National Highway, State Highway or Inter village roads taking advantage of Yaoshang festival as well as to avoid roads accident.
The union urged all its units, village level local clubs, women societies and any other local level developmental societies to take strong precautionary measures to prevent such practices within their respective unit’s or village jurisdiction.
It also appealed to the transporters and passengers not to donate a single paise to the gorkha brothers and sisters during Yaoshang along the roads while appealing the parents and guardian concerned not to encourage their children in such illegal activities during this festival.
Any transporters or individuals, who come across such illegal collection during the Yaoshang, can inform the matter to any officials of AMGSU in the given numbers so as to initiate strong action by the Union. However, it requested photographs from the front views as evidence.
