The ‘All Political Parties’ has unanimously resolved to demand the Centre that the census report of 2001 should be corrected before launching the delimitation process for Manipur or else, the delimitation process should be started after 2026.
The resolution was reapproved in the 2nd “All Political Parties” meeting held on Wednesday at the state Bharatiya Janata Party office located at Canchipur.
Chairman of the ‘Memorandum Drafting Committee’ M Nara said the unanimous decision was taken to rectify the doubts of the 2001 census report in order to bring justice for each community.
“It is one of the achievements of the political parties of the state that ‘All Political Parties’ unanimously take resolution on an issue for a better future,” said Nara.
He said if political parties of the state start work unanimously for issues in the future, then the state will progress. Nara also said drafting of memorandum for the demand has been completed and with the completion of some signatures, the memorandum will be sent to the Centre immediately.
The ‘All Political Parties’ re-approved the resolutions made during its first meeting that was held on Monday with the decision to politically and legally oppose the delimitation notification issued on February 28.
After the former forest minister, Th Shyamkumar was disqualified, one NPF MLA was appointed as state forest minister.
Speaking to the media, state BJP president, S Tikendra said that based on 2001 census report and under Delimitation Act, 2002, the delimitation process will be carried out across the country whereas four states of Northeast including Manipur were deferred and instructed to start the process after 2026 after considering the law and order situation.
However, with the improvement of law and order, the central government has instructed to start the delimitation process for the remaining four Northeastern states including Manipur, he added.
As the census report of 2001 is not reliable, the meeting resolved to oppose the delimitation process as delimitation based on 2001 census report will not bring good results to the state, Tikendra added.
The struggle faced by the political parties is ‘struggle for justice’ and it is not in the interest of any individual community, Tikendra asserted.
Representatives from 16 political parties were present at the meeting; no representatives from Naga People’s Front (NPF) attended though it is one of the ally political parties in forming the BJP-led coalition government.
