The All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), Manipur State Committee has appealed to the government to take up steps in withdrawing the economic blockade on NH-2 and deploy security forces along the highway.
AITUC, Manipur State Committee, in their executive meeting held on Thursday, discussed the problems faced by the drivers and handymen of trucks plying on the two national highways of the state. It also appealed to keep ROP in sensitive areas and to let the state forces escort the loaded trucks to the state.
AITUC, in a release on Saturday, said that the union has been urging the state and central government to provide security and repair the deteriorating road condition of the national highways which are the lifelines of the state.
It mentioned that trucks plying along Imphal-Jiri road have been taking more time to reach Imphal due to the problems faced by the drivers and handymen during their journey. More that 200 loaded trucks are stuck in Jiribam for now, it added.
It said that basic essential items, foods and medicinal supplies might be scarce in the state since national highway 2 is on blockade. The price hike in the state during the ethnic clash has taken a toll on the lives of daily wagers, it added.
