After witnessing zero Covid-19 cases since January 3, 2023, Manipur reported one new positive case on Saturday (April 1), official sources said.
The latest update by the state Health Services on Saturday showed 17 samples test were conducted and of it, the result of one came COVID-19 positive. The infected case is reported from Imphal East district.
According to the Health department, a first year PG student of JNIMS, who had no travel hsitory, was found positive for the infection. He has had two doses of COVID vaccination. Due containment measures have been taken up, it said.
With the new Covid-19 positive case, the state's COVID-19 confirmed caseload reached 139925, while the death toll remained unmoved at 2149 with no report of COVID-19 death for the last several months.
The state positivity rate now stood at 5.9 per cent. So far, 16,70,837 samples have been tested in the state.
On March 31, five people were administered the COVID-19 vaccination. So far, the total Covid-19 doses administered reached 3269105, according to the state immunization officer. Till date, a total of 137775 people reported recovered from the disease in the state. And the recovery rate is 98.46 per cent.
Recently, state Health Minister Sapam Ranjan said at an event that Manipur was well prepared to tackle COVID resurgence.
“The pandemic sent the entire globe into a frenzy; it was not prepared to handle such an outbreak; however, we have figured out the measures to face such events in the future,” the minister said at the naugural function of the national conference on the ‘Emerging Challenges in the Frontiers of Chemical Science (NC-ECFCS-2023)’, in Imphal on March 29.
