After Tupul, yet another massive landslide hit Sibilong village under Tousem sub-division in Tamenglong district, Manipur, Northeast India early Sunday, blocking the Imphal-Jiribam road near Nungdolan and leaving several vehicles and travellers stranded on the road, sources said.
According to eyewitnesses, the landslide occurred around 5 am Sunday, bringing down huge boulders that blocked the Imphal-Jiribam road. Several vehicles and travellers remained stranded with no excavators or help in sight, the sources at ground zero said.
As the people wait for help, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh took to Twitter and said concerned authorities have been informed to clear the road. He, however, advised people to avoid Imphal-Jiribam road on National Highway-37 for the time being.
"Due to continuous heavy downpour and landslides, NH 37 has multiple road blockades at Nungdolan, Nungkao and Sibilong. Concerned authorities have been informed to clear the road. Please take care and avoid this road, NH 37 for time being," Biren tweeted.
Several parts of the region have been facing several landslides owing to the incessant rainfall which hit the region as early as March this year.
