After talks with government, Kuki Students' Organisation postpones total shutdown call

The KSO had proposed 24-hour total shutdown in the hill districts, alleging the state government and authorities concerned of not taking action against the commando personnel involved in the assault of KSO Sadar Hills general secretary at Kalapahar on March 3, while demanding the removal of police commando from the hill areas.

The Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO) has postponed its proposed 24-hour total shutdown call from 5 am of March 7 in the hill districts after the state government gave its assurance to solve the issue of alleged assault on KSO leader by police personnel within three days, before March 9.

The student body proposed to imposed 24-hour total shutdown in the hill districts, alleging the state government and authorities concerned of not taking action against the commando personnel involved in the assault of KSO Sadar Hills general secretary at Kalapahar on March 3, while demanding the removal of police commando from the hill areas.

According to the department of information and publicity, KSO general headquarters, a meeting was held with the state government representatives led by the state DGP and the KSO representatives led by KSO GHQ General Secretary Seiboi Touthang,  at the DGP office chamber on Sunday in the presence of various other top-ranking police officials. During the meeting, the state government assured to solve the issue within three days, i.e till March 9, it added.

Considering the assurance, the student body decided to give three more days to the state government to solve the issue and decided to postpone the total shutdown for the time being, he said.

However, if the government failed to keep its promise within the stipulated time, the total shutdown in the hill districts will be imposed from midnight of March 9 until the issue is resolved.

The KSO had demanded the removal of police commandos from the hill areas and appropriate action upon the commando personnel involved in assaulting the general secretary of KSO Sadar Hills within two days.

After alleging the state government and authorities concerned of not taking any action within the time frame, the stipulated two days, the student body had decided to impose the total shutdown from 5 am of March 7, which they postpone on March 9 after the government assurance during the talk.

Meanwhile, the All Tribal Students' Union Manipur, all KSO units and the Sadar Hills Private Schools Association had declared their endorsement of the KSO protest.
