Two persons, who were arrested in connection with a complaint lodged on Sunday by co-convenor of Joint Co-ordinating Committee on Wildlife and Biodiversity (JCCWB) for allegedly killing a dog were released on bail on Monday.
The two - Thiyam Motilal was arrested for dragging a dog to death using a motorcycle and Yursem Muinao for dressing the dog meat for consumption.
During investigation, Motilal revealed that the dog was bought from one of his friends and sold to Yursem.
The two accused were released after they were produced before the chief judicial magistrate, Imphal East (CJM/IE) on Monday. They were arrested under section 188/428/429/34 IPC and sec 11 Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, 1960. The court order said that the offences are bailable in nature. The court granted them bail after furnishing a PR bond of Rs 50,000 each.
The court also told the accused persons to appear on September 15 and directed the investigating officer of the case to dispose of the dog meat immediately.
