Accused in Pallel woman killing sent to jail

The accused allegedly shot a 36-year-old woman woman in Pallel Mamang Leikai on December 23.

The Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Thoubal on Thursday remanded K Birjit, who allegedly shot a woman in Pallel Mamang Leikai, in judicial custody for 15 days.

Kakching District police arrested Birjit on December 24, the following day of the incident from Imphal area along with a .32 pistol with five live rounds.

Irate locals of Pallel stormed the court complex and demanded befitting punishment for the accused and chanted various slogans.

It may be recalled that accused Birjit reportedly shot dead a 36-year-old woman Jemmi on the night of December 23 in front of a shop. In retaliation, locals of Pallel set ablaze at the old Pallel Police station and vandalised the shop where the incident took place.  

Subsequently, Kakching Police station registered a case against the accused under IPC section 302 and Arms Act of section 27 and has been investigating the incident.
