INDIA Bloc alliance candidate for 18th Lok Sabha for inner Manipur Lok Sabha constituency Bimol Akoijam on Sunday reached Imphal and exuded confidence that the ensuing election will be a turning point for Manipur.
He might file his nomination on Monday to start his election campaign.
The former JNU professor was nominated as Congress candidate for Inner Manipur Lok Sabha constituency on Saturday and was later approved by 10 political parties as their sole candidate. However, CPI is yet to finalize on him as Sotinkumar was put forward as their candidate and they have asked for a few days to decide it.
Bimol told the media at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport that the upcoming Lok Sabha election is not just an election but a turning point for Manipur. If the vote is given under the influence of money power, then it will be very hard for a peaceful Manipur, he said.

Responding to the media, he said the people of Manipur have been suffering for the past 10 months and the government is not taking any steps to end the issue. After considering the ideology of the Congress party he accepted to contest as a Congress candidate. He said various issues have been raised in various platforms however, all the issues and suggestions are left unnoticed by the government. With a hope to bring a new political culture in Manipur apart from contesting elections with money power he decided to become a candidate in the election, he added.
BJP Manipur Pradesh has already announced to support NPF candidate Kachui Timothy Zimik for outer Manipur Lok Sabha constituency. However, it is yet to announce its candidate for the inner Manipur Lok Sabha constituency.
Meanwhile, Maheshwar Thounaojam has announced that he will be contesting for the inner Manipur Lok Sabha constituency under the Republican Party of India (Athwale) seat which is a political alliance with the BJP in the centre.
