The 81st death anniversary of modern Manipuri literary doyen Mahakavi Hijam Anganghal was observed at his memorial site in Ningom Thomgjao, Imphal on Thursday.
The observation was organised by Mahakavi Hijam Anganghal Singh Memorial Trust at Ningomthongjao, Imphal.
Speaking on the occasion, vice president of trust Th Gobardhon highlighted the mammoth contributions of Hijam Anganghal in shaping the landscape of Manipuri literature.
He was a pioneer and is a legendary figure in Manipuri literature, he added.
He also noted the various literary works of the great poet which includes his masterpiece ‘Khamba-Thoibi’ epic poem.
He further stated that the observation had been toned down in light of the prevailing crisis in Manipur.
The literary giant was borned on July 28, 1892 and passed away on April 25, 1943. The trust constructed his memorial site at Ningomthongjao in the year 2015 to carry forward the legacy of the great poet.
