The 55th Raising Day of the Naga Regiment, Head Hunters, was celebrated on Friday at Christianity Centenary Hall, Modi Village in Chandel district.
Organised by Ex-servicemen of the regiment, the event brought together veterans of the regiment including widows and their families.
The event began with an opening prayer by Rt Bebe Jackson, Pastor, Modi Baptist Church with Lk Tanghring welcoming the gathering.
And while reading the history of the Naga Regiment, K. Wangshot Lamkang informed that the regiment, formed on 1st November, 1970, today occupies a place of honour in the Indian Army. And within one year of its formation, the regiment was baptised in war and tasted blood in the war for the liberation of Bangladesh, 1971.
In a short span of nearly eight years, the Naga Regiment received colour from Neelam Sanjeeve Reddy, the then President of India, on May 6, 1978 at Dehradun, he informed.
As part of the observation, those among the first to join the Naga Regiment when it was formed spoke on their experiences with the gathering. They shared the hardships, the challenges and their victories with the regiment and how it paved the way for the formation of more Naga Regiments.
Lambung Women Ministry presented a beautiful choreography as part of the celebration which concluded with a grand feast at the village ground.
The celebration was attended by Ex-servicemen of the regiment, their families, widows of veterans and well wishers numbering in hundreds.
