The 4th Pamei Conference under the theme ‘Unity and Prosper’ began Saturday night at the Mini Stadium Tamenglong Apollo ground Utopia. Hundreds of Pamei’s clan from Assam, Manipur and Nagaland are taking part in the conference.
A one-minute silent prayer for the departed souls of Pamei Clan was observed on Saturday night, led by Pamei Union President Mathew Pamei.
To begin the 4th Pamei conference, Pamei Union President Mathew Pamei hoisted the Pamei clan flag and Tamenglong Baptist Church Emeritus Pastor offered special prayers for the Pamei clan.
John Pamei, Member, Historical and Research Committee, Horticulture/sericulture commissioner T Pamei, PIB IIS Director Engam Pame, Tamenglong Times Editor Jimmy Pamei spoke as resource persons.
According to Pamei clan elders, Makhel is said to be the dispersing point of Naga and Zeliangrong community. The Zeliangrongpui people then move to Ramtingkabin, Chawangphungning and Makuilongdi.
Makuilongdi village, which is presently in the Senapati district, is considered to be birthplace of the Pamei Clan. Forefathers of Pamei Clan collected stones and piled it up as “Pamei Taukhuan” and this monolith still stands as a mark of historical site.
Likewise, Newmai clan too have the same monolith known as “Newmai Taukhuan”. It is said that the number of households reached 777 at Makuilongdi.
The elder said that from Makuilongdi village the forefathers of Pamei and Zeliangrongpui people dispersed to different directions. They settled in different parts of north-Eastern state of India and speak different dialects.
“Though they speak different dialects, they are one. That is the reason why today we are having this conference showing the union among the brothers”, he said.
A mega “LUCKY DRAW” was also conducted to raise funds for the Pamei clan. The first was a Suzuki Jimny car, second was an Alto car, third a Royal Enfield supermodel, fourth a Vespa. Five Consolations price with smart phone tablet, laptop, refrigerator, washing machine, Gas Stove were also awarded.
