As many as 18 people were rescued, while 13 more bodies recovered on Friday, taking the death toll to 21, including 15 Army personnel, while 42 others remained missing in the landslide that occurred at Tupul in Noney district, Manipur. The landslide hit the Northern Frontier Railway work site and the Indian Army company location on June 29 midnight resulting in the massive devastation.
The joint search and rescue operation by the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, Territorial Army, SDRF and NDRF continued relentlessly throughout the day at the incident site at Tupul, Manipur on Friday, Army sources said.
As per the latest update at 7.35 pm Friday, bodies of eight more Territorial Army personnel and four more civilians were recovered during the search, while so far 18 people, including 13 Territorial Army personnel and five civilians were safely rescued. Through Wall Radar is being used to detect any human presence inside the mud pile, the sources said.
The bodies of Territorial Army personnel were despatched to respective home stations with full military honors. Search for 15 missing Territorial Army personnel and 29 civilians will continue unabated, the Army sources said.
Meanwhile, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh visited the site again on Friday and encouraged the personnel engaged in rescue operations. Nonstop efforts from all agencies will continue till each missing personnel is found, he said.
