38 Congress workers among 75 join BJP in Manipur

“On seeing the good works done by minister Letpao Haokip, we decided to leave the Congress party and join the BJP."

As many as 75 persons, including 38 Congress workers, joined the BJP in Moreh on Saturday and they were given a warm reception in a programme organised by the BJP Tengnoupal Mandal at the Ngamkhai veng Community Hall, Moreh.

State BJP president A Sharda Devi and TA and Hill Minister Letpao Haokip attended as chief guest and president respectively at the event.

Union Minister RK Ranjan Singh also joined the programme as a special guest. On the occasion, one of the seniormost Congress members who joined BJP, Sochung Lhungdim, said that a report about two-three suspended Congress members joining the BJP is false.

He said that he was one of the oldest Congress members who had been serving the party for more than 30 years.

“On seeing the good works done by minister Letpao Haokip, we decided to leave the Congress party and join the BJP,” he said.

BJP Manipur state secretary and BJP Chandel district in charge Kh Bikram Singh; vice chairman disaster management Yanglet Haokipstate secretary and BJP Kangpokpi district in charge Paokam Haokip attended the event as guests of honour.

Former chairman ADC Chandel Lhukhosei Zou; former member of ADC Chandel and current convenor in charge of Moreh Town Committee Cecilia Chinneivah Haokip, Chandel and Tengnoupal district BJP leaders also took part in the event.

At the event, as many as 31 members from Moreh Block Congress Committee joined the BJP including president Thongkholun Baite; vice president Th Robin Meitei; general secretary Lalminthang Gangte; joint secretary MD Rajauddin and info and publicity secretary of the committee Oukhokai Touthang.

From Chandel district Congress Committee, three members including its president, vice president and Chairperson Minority Cell joined the BJP.

From Tengnoupal Block Congress Committee, four members including its president, two vice president and social media coordinator joined the BJP Tengnoupal mandal. Other members consisting of 37 people from different areas and 15 others also joined BJP Tengnoupal mandal.
