3,029 crime cases reported in 2022: NCRB

No child labour cases reported.

The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) annual report has revealed that as many as 3,029 crime cases were filed under different IPCs in 2022, of which 10.4 per cent were chargesheeted in Manipur.

According to the report, there was no record of child labour cases in 2022. There were 47 murder cases and 49 victims; 1 culpable homicide (amounting to murder) and one victim.

The report showed 107 incidents which caused death by negligence and 177 victims. It showed 107 road accidents and 177 victims; 55 hit and run cases, and 59 victims.

It showed six incidents of abetment to suicide and 153 attempts to commit murder. Under IPC section 325 of voluntary causing grievous hurt, it reported 98 incidents, 111 victims and 52 cases of assault on women, sexual harassment five incidents and five victims.

In kidnapping and abduction, it reported 100 incidents, 106 victims; in kidnap for ransom, seven incidents, eight victims. It also showed 22 incidents of kidnapping of women to compel her for marriage.

It reported 42 incidents of rape, three incidents of sedition, and eight offences against the state. It recorded 84 riot cases and 132 victims because of riots.

According to NCRB report of 2022, there were 55 cases of POCSO, one incident of child marriage, four incidents of juvenile justice care and protection of child. 

In UAPA, 167 cases reported and 34 arms Act, 33 firearms. 518 NDPS Act cases, 132 cases of possession of drugs from personal use, 386 cases of possession of drugs for trafficking, 518 cases of liquor and narcotic drugs.

There was no human trafficking case in 2022. However, children missing in 2022 is 95, missing and traced children below 18 years is 54 and 41 children untraced including previous year.

For aged persons, 376 persons were missing and 256 were traced. Cases registered against police personnel are five in Manipur during 2022.

Cases pending for investigation from the previous year is 17,521, cases reported during the year 2022 is 3,029 and cases reopened for investigation is two. Total cases for investigation is 2,0552. Cases transferred to other states are two.

Cases ended as FR non cognizable is 14, cases ended as FR false is six. Cases true but insufficient evidence or no clue is 1292, cases abated during investigation is three, cases charge sheeted from the previous year is 93, charge sheeted during the year is 63.

he rate of crimes against women per lakh population stood at 66.4 while the charge sheeting in such cases was logged at 75.8, showed the data in “Crime in India 2022”, the annual crime report of the NCRB. The bureau is tasked with the collection and analysis of crime data and functions under the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.

The majority of crime against women under Indian Penal Code (IPC) were of cruelty by husband or his relatives (31.4 per cent) followed by kidnapping and abduction of women 19.2 per cent, Assault on women with intent to outrage her modesty 18.7 percent and rape 7.1 percent, the NCRB stated.
