22 AR rescues Meitei woman, Muslim man

A Meitei woman and a Muslim man were held by the volunteers of COTU women wing of Gamgiphai.

A team of 22nd Assam Rifles led by 22nd AR New CO Colonel Kartik Thapa rescued a Meitei woman and Muslim man from a Kuki woman crowd at Gamgiphai, Senapati district near Kanglatombi on Tuesday.

The team led by Col Kartik immediately rushed to the area after the unit received information that two individuals were detained at Gamgiphai by some Kuki women volunteers on the basis of their identity around 5.30 am.

On reaching the location, the team found out that a Meitei woman and a Muslim man were held by the volunteers of COTU women wing of Gamgiphai. On detailed enquiry the Muslim man revealed that he was an auto driver and had picked up the Meitei woman from Ema Keithel for Langjing. However, they lost their way and reached Gamgiphai instead. Both were also under the influence of alcohol when they had reached Gamgiphai.

The Coy Commander managed to handle the situation by urging the women volunteers to return both the individuals safely. Due to timely intervention and after persistent efforts, they were released and subsequently handed over to the OC Sekmai Police Station along with the auto bearing registration number AS10C 7922 by 22 AR at around 11.40 am.

The rescued persons are Laishram Lata, 45, wife of Aken Laishram of Ningthoukhong Mayai Leikai Ward No VII and Hussain Ahmen Ali, 51, from Kwakta Ward No 2, Bishnupur district currently staying at Minuthong Hatta.
