The Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO) Delhi and National Capital Region, Centre for Advocacy and Research (CFAR) in collaboration with InSIDE – North East distributed food packages and masks to about 1,600 stranded Manipuris at Gurgaon railway station, Haryana and New Delhi Railway station on May 23 and May 25.
The stranded Manipuris were to return to the state by the Special Shramik Trains bound to Jiribam from Gurgaon Railway Station in Haryana and New Delhi Railway Station.
“We supported them in every possible way as they stood in long queues under the scorching heat for thermal screening from 6 am in Gurgaon and 10 am in Saket, New Delhi until they boarded the bus and trains at 5 pm and 7.30 in the evening,” the team said.
The team distributed dry fruits, biscuits, water bottles, biscuits, soaps and other essential items to the people irrespective of the community they belong, said a release.
The distribution at Gurgaon Railway Station was done in collaboration with InSIDE - North East, sponsored by Bethany Social Service Society, Faridabad (The Bethany Sisters), it said.
The relief materials at New Delhi railway Station was distributed in collaboration with InSIDE – North East supported by Centre for Advocacy and Research under the sponsorship of Azim Premji Philanthropic Initiatives, it added.
Besides distribution of relief materials, the KSOD leaders and volunteers also helped many passengers in carrying their luggage, added the release.
The release expressed gratitude to InSIDE – North East for collaborating with the two sponsors, Azim Premji Philanthropic Initiatives and Bethany Social Service Society, Faridabad (The Bethany Sisters).
It also expressed gratitude to the members of CFAR who were involved in procuring the relief materials, preparing food packets, coordinating with several agencies such as Azim Premji Philanthropic Initiative, Parle G, Hejang Misao and his network i.e. InSIDE – North East, and distribution of relief through community volunteers.
If further expressed gratitude to joint commissioner of Police, Special Unit for Northeast Region, David Lalrinsanga IPS, additional commissioner, Rajasthan Commercial Taxes Haulianlal Guite and sub divisional magistrate Gurugram, Jitendra Sharma for extending help to KSOD in obtaining curfew passes.
