14th National Voters’ Day observed in Manipur

The National Voters’ Day 2024 was celebrated at the CEO, Manipur office complex located at Lamphel.

Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Manipur, observed the 14th National Voters’ Day 2024 under the theme ‘Nothing like voting, I vote for sure’ on Thursday.

The National Voters’ Day 2024 was celebrated at the CEO, Manipur office complex located at Lamphel.

Addressing the gathering, the chief secretary of Manipur, Vineet Joshi stressed on the importance of vote and the purpose of celebrating voter’s day. He said the celebration is to encourage young voters, who have got voting rights. It is extremely important to vote in a free, fair and peaceful manner, he added.

India is the oldest democracy in the world and nowhere in the world has such an electoral vote been so smooth, he said, adding that voting happens in large numbers in India.

“Despite the complex situation in Manipur last year, officials of CEO Manipur had conducted survey and completed the state electoral roll well in time” said Vineet Joshi with an appreciation.

He appealed to all the young voters and everyone who has voting rights to come forward to vote.

A photo exhibition on the SVEEP campaign was also opened during the observance.

Administration of National Voters’ Day pledge, presentation of newly enrolled voters with EPIC and badges, felicitation of SWEEP state icons, distribution of various awards and prizes of SWEEP campaign were the highlights of the event.

Speaking at the function, Additional Chief Secretary M H Khan said that the constitution has given us the right to elect our leader. If we do not choose the correct leader, our future will be spoiled, he said and appealed to the voters to use their rights wisely.

President of the function, PK Jha said National Voter’s Day is the celebration of voters especially for the first-time voters. He said that it is the right bestowed to us by the constitution and appreciated the District Election Officers, Returning Officers, BLOs and other officials of Chief Electoral Officer, Manipur for the successful Electoral Summary Revision 2023-24. He also said that a survey was conducted in partnership with Manipur Technical University regarding knowledge, aptitude and practices of election.

Appreciation Certificates and Best Electoral Practices Awards 2024 were conferred to District Election Officers, Electoral Registration Officers, Returning Officers for their exemplary performances.

The celebration was attended by CEO Manipur, Pradeep Kumar Jha, Additional chief secretary, MH Khan and officials of CEO office.
