As many as 1,33,553 numbers of similar photo entries in different polling stations of the 60 assembly constituencies of Manipur were found in the electoral roll, claimed the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) on Monday.
In this regard, a team of MPCC led by its Legal Department chairman S Shyamcharan has submitted a representation to the CEO, Manipur seeking his attention for rechecking the number of photos similar entries in the electoral roll of the state.
It requested the CEO for cancellation or correction of any wrong entries in the names with the photo in the different electoral rolls under Rule 26 of Registration of Electors Rules, 1960 for conducting free and fair elections. The wrong entries were entered through fraudulent means and collusion with unknown persons, it alleged.
Speaking to the media after submission of the representation at the campus of CEO, Manipur in Imphal West, Shyamcharan said it is unfortunate that a total of 1,33,553 fraudulent votes were exercised in the 2022 election of Manipur.
He maintained that officials of the CEO office conveyed that its office is in process to rectify the irregularities.
According to the officials, a process has been taken up to remove around 55-56 thousand similar photo entries from the electoral roll, he said. “However, it is uncertain how far the verbal statements of the officials are true. Let us wait and see,” he added.
