During the flag-off ceremony, MLA S Premchandra emphasised the ecological significance of Loktak Lake, noting its vital role not only for human populations but also as a habitat for various animals and birds. He called for collective responsibility in preserving this precious ecosystem.

LDA chairman M Asnikumar echoed these sentiments, stressing that Loktak Lake is integral to Manipur’s history and must be safeguarded. He pointed out that while government initiatives are important, public support is crucial for effective conservation efforts. To bolster this mission, awareness programs are set to be launched in various educational institutions.

In a message on Loktak Day, Thang AC MLA Tongbram Robindro celebrated Loktak Lake as the “cradle of Manipur,” highlighting its rich biodiversity and significance to local communities, especially the fishermen of Thanga AC who rely on its waters for sustenance and culture.

He noted the lake’s unique floating phumdis and vibrant ecosystem, which is home to endangered species like the Sangai deer.

Robindro urged everyone to pledge to safeguard Loktak’s biodiversity, promoting sustainable practices that support local livelihoods. He called for increased awareness about environmental conservation, responsible tourism, and development that benefits both the lake and its people.

Together, the community aims to preserve Loktak Lake as a timeless treasure, where nature, culture, and livelihoods can flourish in harmony for generations to come, he added.
