A 100 days-100 district campaign ‘Aashwasan’ to break the chain of the spread of Covid and TB infection was launched by the chief medical officer, Churachandpur Dr T Nengkhanmang in the lawn of his office complex on Friday.

During the campaign, Piramal Swasthya Management and Research Institute will conduct an awareness campaign regarding Covid-19 through mobile vehicles in all tribal blocks of Churachandpur district. It will address the misconceptions regarding Covid and TB infection and address vaccine hesitancy among the people along with the adoption of Covid appropriate behaviour by the public.

Along with the covid-19 campaign, sputum collection and testing will be done based on symptoms through an active case finding campaign of potential TB patients at the village level. TB treatment will be provided free of cost by the government upon confirmation of the disease which will help in preventing the spread of infectious diseases like TB.

Under this campaign, people will not need to go to the government health centres for testing; rather the sputum of presumptive cases will be collected from home and transported to the nearest diagnostic centres for testing.

Keeping in view the aspect of community participation, panchayat members, community influencers, tribal leaders and traditional healers will also be involved during the campaign to make the village TB free and educate people about TB disease and its prevention, said the CMO of Churachandpur on the launching program in the presence of district tuberculosis officer Dr Ngahneikim Haokip and district coordinator alias NGO Piramal Swasthya Munhoi Kipgen.

The project was supported by USAID and will be implemented by the Piramal Swasthya Management and Research Institute (Anamaya) with the help of the department concerned, in the district.

The CMO, district tuberculosis officer and all District National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme staff were present during the launch. Officers from other departments were told to extend all possible support for the campaign.
