Union Home Minister Amit Shah reviews J-K security situation, tells forces to ensure effective counter-terrorism operations

Amit Shah emphasized on proactive operations against terrorists and denying them safe haven or financial support. He directed the security forces and police to ensure real time coordination for effective counter-terrorism operations and monitoring activities of terrorists from jails.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday reviewed the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir in Jammu with Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha and senior officers of the Government of India and the Jammu and Kashmir administration. 

During the meeting, the Union home minister appreciated the improvement in the security situation, reduction in terror incidents from 417 in 2018 to 229 in 2021 and decrease in the number of security forces personnel martyred from 91 in 2018 to 42 in 2021, the Union Home Affairs Ministry stated in a release.

The home minister ordered further strengthening of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in Jammu and Kashmir to choke narco terrorism.

Amit Shah said the security grid should be further strengthened to ensure zero cross-border infiltration and to eliminate terrorism completely in order to achieve Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a peaceful and prosperous Jammu and Kashmir, the release added.

Earlier in the day, Amit Shah attended the 83rd Raising Day celebrations of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Jammu as the chief guest and inspected the parade. Several dignitaries, including the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, Union Minister Jitendra Singh and the Union Home Secretary were present at the function. This is the first time that the CRPF is celebrating its Raising Day outside Delhi.
