Security at the Taj Mahal Palace in Colaba and Taj Lands End in Bandra, Mumbai have been beefed up following threat calls from Pakistan on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, Mumbai police said.
The caller, who identified himself as a member of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terror outfit, threatened that the hotels would be attacked as it happened in the 26/11 attacks, police said.
The call, received at around 12:30 am, was traced back to Karachi, police said. They said the threat call was received on the day when the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) building in Karachi was attacked by four gunmen, killing four security personnel.
The iconic Taj Mahal Palace in Colaba was one of the targets of the Pakistani terrorist during the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack. In 2008, 10 heavily-armed Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists attacked Taj Mahal Palace hotel, Oberoi-Trident, Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus railway station, Nariman House, Leopold Cafe and Cama hospital in Mumbai. At many as174 people were killed and over 300 others injured in the attack.
