Strong tremors jolted parts of North India, including Delhi-NCR, around 10.17 pm as a strong earthquake of magnitude 6.6 struck the Hindu Kush region in Afghanistan. The tremors lasted for about 30 seconds causing panic among residents. However, there was no report of any loss of property or life.
With its epicentre at 90 km from Kalafgan in Afghanistan, apart from India, several neighbouring countries such as Turkmenistan, Kazakhistan, Pakistan, China and Kyrgyzstan reported shock waves that lasted for several seconds.
The depth of the earthquake in Delhi was about 156 km, according to the National Centre for Seismology.
