Gangotri temple situated in Uttarakhand, which was closed for the winter months, is set to reopen its doors to devotees to offer prayers on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya on May 3.
Every year, the Gangotri temple, the temple of goddess Ganga, is closed during winter, starting Diwali day in view of the heavy snowfall in the mountain areas and is reopened on Akshaya Tritiya.
According to reports, the Gangotri temple committee will open the temple doors at 11.15 am on Akshaya Tritiya. The Kedarnath temple will open on May 6, while Badrinath temple will open its doors on May 8.
The timing for opening the Yamunotri temple, however, will be decided on Yamuna Jayanti on April 7, temple sources said.
Starting April-May, the four temples remain open for six months every year.
