At least seven people were killed and five others injured in a fire that engulfed a lodge in Secunderabad, Telengana late Monday, sources said.
Following the incident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep grief over the loss of lives and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh to the next kin of deceased and Rs 50,000 to those injured in the accident from Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF).
"Saddened by the loss of lives due to a fire in Secunderabad, Telangana. Condolences to the bereaved families. May the injured recover soon. Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be paid to the next of kin of each deceased. Rs. 50,000 would be paid to the injured: PM @narendramodi," Modi tweeted on Tuesday.
According to reports, the fire originated from an electric bike showroom in Secunderabad area and spread to a lodge situated above the showroom, killing seven people who were staying there.
Seven other guests, who were trapped in the lodge were rescued by the firefighters and the injured were shifted to hospitals. Around 30 people were staying in the lodge when the fire broke out, the sources said.
