All schools in Delhi will be closed from Friday, December 3 till further orders due to alarming air pollution levels in the national capital, sources said.
On Thursday, the Supreme Court slammed the Delhi government for opening schools when the pollution level in the city is extreme. The court also asked the Delhi government why children have to go to school while elders are working from home.
The apex court gave the Centre and the Delhi government a strong warning to act against air pollution in the national capital within 24 hours.
The Supreme Court will hear the matter again on Friday.
Physical classes resumed in the national capital from November 29. However, the Delhi government suspended physical classes in schools for about 10 days due to the air crisis and reopened again on Monday.
Delhi's air quality deteriorated in November after Diwali. On Friday, the air quality index in the national capital dropped to 500 in the 'severe' category.
