Polling for the Congress presidential elections has ended. The voting that began around 10 am ended 4 pm Monday. Two senior party leaders - Shashi Tharoor and Mallikarjun Kharge - are in the fray.
Over 9,000 Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) delegates voted on Wednesday to decide the fate of the Congress party.
The counting of votes will take place on Wednesday, October 19.
The Congress presidential election was held to elect a non-Gandhi president after 22 years. Polling for a non-Gandhi president was held on Wednesday, three years after Rahul Gandhi resigned as the party president after the Congress party was defeated for the second straight term in the 2019 elections.
Meanwhile, Shashi Tharoor conveyed his gratitude to his colleagues, workers and delegates who participated in the presidential election.
"My thanks to all the @INCIndia colleagues, workers, delegates across the country who had the courage to participate, to campaign, to dream & to vote today -- whatever the result of this election, it is a victory for YOU! Jai Hind, Jai Congress!" Tharoor tweeted.
