Chopper crash kills seven in Uttarakhand; PM Modi condoles loss of lives

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep grief over the loss of lives due to the helicopter crash in Uttarakhand. Six pilgrims along with the pilot were reportedly killed in the helicopter crash at Phata, Kedarnath on Tuesday.

"Anguished by the helicopter crash in Uttarakhand. In this tragic hour, my thoughts are with the bereaved families," the Prime Minister Office tweeted.

According to reports, the helicopter, carrying six pilgrims, crashed soon after takeoff from the Kedarnath shrine near Garud Chatti in Rudraprayag at around 11.40 am Tuesday.

Following it, President Droupadi Murmu and Vice-President Jagdeep Dhanker also condoled the deaths in the targic insident.

"Saddened by the loss of lives in a helicopter crash at Kedarnath in Uttarakhand today. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families," tweeted the official account of the Vice-President of India.

Meanwhile, braving the snowfall and bad weather condition, the NDRF, SDRF and police officials are on search operation at the site of the helicopter crash in Phata of Kedarnath, according to reports.
