As Manipur Health Service (MHS) doctors continue their strike, trouble is brewing in JNIMS Dental College with authorities trying to jumpstart the regularisation of a Senior Resident to a higher post of Associate Professor at the expense of regular assistant professors.
According to documents available with the Imphal Free Press, the lady doctor in question is on deputation to the Department of Periodontology as a Senior Resident at Dental College JNIMS and she has put in a request for her absorption to the higher post of Associate Professor in the same department.
Reports suggest that JNIMS authorities are actively considering the request. However, Director
JNIMS Dr L Deben was unavailable for comment when contacted by the Imphal Free Press.
Regular faculty members of the Dental College, including that of Periodontology department, fear that their prospects of promotion, seniority and career enhancement would be seriously jeopardised if such a request is entertained by authorities.
Reports add, there are enough assistant professors in the said department and other departments, who had already served more than four years of regular service which is required for consideration of promotion to the post of associate professor and a seniority list had already been published in 2021.
According to the relevant recruitment rules, the post of Associate Professor shall be filled up through promotion from among the regular Assistant Professors serving in the Dental College having essential qualification, failing which the posts would be filled up by direct recruitment.
Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) is managed by a society of which the state chief minister is the chairman.
