With the aim to groom the younger generation in the right direction, COHSEM examination 2022’s Arts stream topper Golmei Gaihemmai expressed her desire to become an ideal teacher in the near future.
“I want to share my every knowledge to the youths and give good guidance to the younger generation who are the future pillar,” said Gaihemmai while speaking to the Imphal Free Press.
Hailing from Langthabal Khoupum Village in Imphal West, as the second daughter among three siblings of G Katazinpou and G Akashini Kabuini, Gaihemmai topped the Arts stream examination by scoring 91.8 per cent. She pursued her 11 and 12 standards from the Enlightened Knowledge Higher Secondary School, Sangakpham in Imphal East.
“The exam result was indeed surprising for me as I expected to be on the top list but not on the top. It is one of the happiest movements of my life,” said Gaihemmai.
Expressing satisfaction on the mark awarded to her, Gaihemmai gave the credit for her success, first, to the Almighty and then to her parents, teachers and siblings for their immense support and guidance during her preparation for the examination.

Sharing her study method, she said, “I often take a long rest between studies to relax my mind as studying with a relaxed mind gives us good concentration power.” “I did not give all my time to studying. I usually watch music videos and movies in my free time,” she added.
She also shared her difficulties in giving the physical examination after being adapted to online mode of education and examination for almost two years during the pandemic.
“As we have been adapted to the online mode examination, which is mostly based on objective type question and the answers were written from keyboard, it was difficult to cope up the speed of my handwriting during the exam,” she said adding, “Moreover the COVID-19 pandemic had mentally disturbed us and diverted our minds.”
As the pandemic has totally disrupted the education atmosphere, she admitted to having attended extra coaching for two subjects (English and Manipuri) to cope up with the backdrops.
Surprisingly, nine of the top 10 positions of the Arts stream were bagged by the students of the same school. In this regard, she praised her school atmosphere where great relationships are maintained within the teachers and students.
“Moreover, the teachers of my schools are well dedicated and are always ready to clear the doubts of the students,” she added.
“Do not be pressured while pursuing your education. Be independent and choose the subjects or field which you prefer. It will automatically lead you to success,” it is the message given by the topper to the youths of the state.
Being a just above average student during her high school, Gaihemmai was able to score only 78.66 per cent in her matric examination conducted by the BOSEM from Standard Roberth Higher Secondary School.
After going through a lot of struggles in these two years (taken over by the COVID-19 pandemic) she was able to become the state Arts topper in her class 12 exam. She is planning to pursue her further studies in Manipur literature and is aiming to get admitted at DM College of Science in Imphal.
