Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker Thokchom Satyabrata Singh inaugurated the Yoga Cell at the Department of Psychiatry, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Imphal on the occasion of World Mental Health Day on Monday.
Addressing the function as chief guest, Singh said that yoga plays a crucial role in keeping mental health sound. Many people have started doing Yoga as one of the mandatory activities in their life, he said.
He said that the society can exist peacefully when people have the right kind of thinking and for this, people need to have good mental health.
Setting up of a yoga cell in this critical situation when mental health issues are rising is highly appreciable, he added.
Dr RK Lenin, head of department, Psychiatry, RIMS said that the problem of mental health has been increasing in the state and that there is a need for collective effort to address the issue to have a healthy society.
Though the psychiatric department of RIMS has limited manpower, they are providing the service at the best level, he added.
He also appealed to the people of the state to consider yoga as one of the important activities in their life. The well-being of every population is counted in order to have a developed and happy society, he said.
The programme was also attended by RIMS director Dr A Santa Singh; associate professor of RIMS, Dr S Gojendra Singh and assistant professor, head in-charge of Clinical Psychology, RIMS, Dr Sameeta Ng as president and guests of honour respectively.
