Manipur: Drug awareness, health camp held at Hoomi and Halang villages

Over 600 residents of the two villages attended the programme.

A one-day awareness campaign on Drug Abuse was held at Hoomi village in Ukhrul District on Sunday.

The programme was sponsored by the Minister of Veterinary & Animal Husbandry and Transport, Government of Manipur, Khashim Vashum. It was held on the theme ‘End It Now’.

A two-day health camp was also held at Hoomi and Halang villages on Sunday and Monday as part of the programme.

The awareness programme and health camp was jointly organised by the Weaker Community’s Action For Development (WCAD), District Aids Prevention Control Unit (DAPCU), Police Department Ukhrul, Society for Promotion of Youth and Masses (SPYM), Participatory Action For Sustainable Development Organization (PASDO), Citizens alliance for re-empowerment (CARE) and Social Network Model(SNM) and Social Integrated Development Organisation (SIDO).

SIDO Secretary, Kulajit Maisnam and WCAD president, Ngamreiwung Horam led the team at Hoomi and Halang villages. Two doctors deputed by CMO, Ukhrul, Kapangring namely Dr Vikash and Dr Akuli assisted at the camp.

During the event, Additional SP Ukhrul, Ringthing Hongchui stressed on social problems caused by Drug use, while SNM, Ukhrul, Vaomi Shang gave insights on drug overdose management and SIDO secretary Kulajit Maisnam, spoke on substance addiction and necessity of treatment.

Over 600 residents of the two villages attended the programme. Many villagers were also provided health-check up at the camp.
