In its bid to preserve and promote the rich culture and tradition being passed down by the forefathers, Chingjaroi CV began its Khamor Angkhui festival under the theme “Redefining our Culture.”

The village wore a vibrant look with the young and old, alike in full traditional attire, thronging the venue of the occasion as the natives came together in unison to celebrate their much revered cultural festival.

Prior to this celebration, no native can venture outside the village and engage in any agricultural activities as it being a special day for them to relax and dine over sumptuous dishes for sound health, while invoking Almighty god to bless in their pursuits for bumper harvest.

Atozha kapang (community festival) is another striking and unique feature of the festival. A well cooked pork is prepared and served while womenfolk play a vital role in this feast.

This year’s Atozha Kapang is hosted by R Joel.

Elaborating on the theme “Redefining our Culture, “ Rev SK Desolo, the festive speaker, urged the villagers to align their culture with God.

“Culture is a way of life. That said, as Christians, we must realise that what is not applicable must be deleted,” he said.

There are lots that we should revisit and preserve and the younger generation must take this seriously, he added.

Addressing the public, RH Raising, Member of Collective Leadership (MCL), NSCN- GPRN, as chief guest, exhorted the villagers to preserve the rich culture and bring necessary changes in keeping with the change. A nation or community without culture has no identity and they will perish, he said.

Subsidy provided by government in no way must make us lazy because we have enough land to plough and tilled. However the subsidies provided by the government have made us lazy and this is wrong, he said.

Why should we leave our fertile land barren, he questioned and called on the people to vow to consume fresh fruits and vegetables, and not contaminated ones.

The organic rice produced by the indigenous people should be encouraged, he said.
