Tree plantation drive in Manipur is gaining ground with the growing 'go green' awareness to save mother earth. Several organisations have taken to it to mark a function or festivals and events in the state. Joining the state's effort to conserve the green hills and the valley, personnel of security forces on Saturday planted 817 saplings.
On Saturday, the Mantripukhri and Keithelmanbi Batallions of 9 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) organised a Tree Plantation Drive at Mantripukhri and Hanuman Top areas.
The drive was organised with an aim to raise awareness about the importance of a healthy green environment amongst the troops, the Assam Rifles said in a release.
The event saw an enthusiastic participation by the troops. A total of 128 personnel participated in the drive by observing all preventive precautions of COVID-19.
The battalions planted a total of 815 saplings of multiple varieties, mostly fruit, flower bearing and other saplings, it added.
Year after year, the AR persoonel have been leading the green movement and showing the way to greening the state.
Meanwhile, the Sajik Tampak Battalion of 28 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) distributed 1,000 face masks to the people of Kana Valley under Chandel district in view of the global pandemic situation on Friday.
The masks were stitched by the local women with the battalion provided the necessary assistance of raw material as they joined hands to fight the pandemic, it said.
Cash incentive was also given to the women for their dedicated work for the cause. Assam Rifles continued its support to the needy since the lockdown started, it added.
