As a part of the World Environment Day 2022, a one-day River Cleaning Drive was organised by local organisations on Saturday at the Chakpi River stretch in Monsang Pantha village, Chandel district, Manipur.
The River Cleaning Drive was jointly organised by the Bungmi Association for Community Empowerment and Leadership (BACEL) and the Monsang Pantha Youth and Cultural Club (MPYCC).
They opined that river cleaning is important not only for the sake of cleaning but it will create an awareness on river pollution and forest preservation in tune with this year's World Environment Day theme, "Only One Earth".
The River Cleaning Drive is an annual Chakpi River Cleaning Event carried out by youths of Monsang Pantha.
Today's event was conducted purely on the local donations from the villagers and few well wishers from outsids the district. It saw the participation of over 70 youths, sources said.
The drive was attended by Rev Fr Micheal Kochuparambil, Principal of St Peter's Higher Secondaey School, Monsang Pantha, Chandel and Ng Vincent Chief, Monsang Pantha Village. It was also attended by MPYCC president Ng Salim Peter and BACEL's president Ng Rameson Monsang.
