As violence-hit Manipur continued to witness unrest and turmoil, the government has extended the date for reopening of schools in the state to July 8 or or until further notice, official sources said.

According to the June 20 order of the government, schools were to reopen on July 1.

However, Director of Education(S), Manipur, L Nandakumar Singh stated in an order on Friday that all Zonal Education Officers under the Department of Education-Schools, Manipur are directed to inform all concerned about the postponement of the reopening of schools and take up necessary actions accordingly.

Following the ethnic clash that broke out in the state on May 3, 2023, the state government had declared summer vacation till June 31. But, with no end to the ongoing class, the reopening of schools was put on hold.

Then on June 16, 2023, the government announced the reopening of schools and restarting of normal classes. However, the order has been deferred.
