'Remove ban on internet to enable online classes for students'

Online classes would be a more feasible option for classes under the circumstances so that displaced students and students unable to attend school due to the unrest can also join the classes, says president of Keishamthong Apunba Ima Lup Soraisham Shantileim.

Keishamthong Apunba Ima Lup on Friday appealed to authorities concerned to open up the internet lockdown in Manipur as it has seriously impeded various sectors especially the education sector in Manipur.

The lup applauded the initiation of school classes for children but lamented the slight disregard for students in far flung isolated areas and in relief camps who are struggling to maintain normal life.

As such, the lup demanded authorities to make proper electronic gadgets accessible to students staying under such circumstances so that they could properly catch up on their academic activities.

Speaking to media at Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul, president of Keishamthong Apunba Ima Lup Soraisham Shantileima asserted that even though the state government's initiative was welcomed the inability to restore normalcy has created an apprehensive atmosphere.

"We support the government's move to open schools but parents and guardians of students are still apprehensive about sending their wards to school since the unrest has not been resolved," she said.

She urged authorities to take an equal outlook and restore internet connectivity in Manipur so that online classes can be started.

Online classes would be a more feasible option for classes under the circumstances so that displaced students and students unable to attend school due to the unrest can also join the classes, she added.

She further pointed out that state government should survey the exact number of affected  students and give out mobile phones to join the online classes.

She also emphasised the need for authorities to implement a more stringent security measure for farmers in sensitive areas.

"There will be an inevitable food crisis in Manipur if farmers are not able to cultivate paddy this year," she said.

She further demanded authorities to convene an urgent assembly sitting swiftly to discuss on the prevailing issue.
