Setting an example of making achievements with hard work despite having humble backgrounds, Malemnganbi Laishram, a daughter of a newspaper hawker, has topped the Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur, 2024 examination in Science stream by securing a total of 493 marks with letter marks in all six subjects.
Malemnganbi Laishram is the eldest daughter of Romen Laishram and Laishram Jugarani Devi of Khurai Sajor Leikai. She appeared at the higher secondary examination from Comet School, Changangei Ucheckon, Imphal West.
Malemnganbi told the media that she aims to become a doctor. For her success, she wanted to give credit to her parents, family members and teachers as they altogether support and encourage while becoming topper.

She said the family members wanted her to become a doctor and even she was encouraged to become a doctor since childhood.
Responding to the media, she said the ongoing violence did not affect her study but she was apprehensive if the syllabus would be left uncovered as the schools were shut for months.
“A student need not wait to be forced into study. Astudent should enjoy reading and studying books and there is no need to be a bookworm in order to become a topper. I enjoy studying and I do not have a particular schedule for studying,” she said.
She further said that she is an active social media user but keeps it under control.

Father of the topper, Romen said he felt proud that her daughter will appear in newspapers that he has been delivering at hundreds of doorsteps.
“If I get a chance to meet my daily subscribers, I will tell them that my daughter is the topper and she is in the paper,” Romen exclaimed. Malemnganbi’s mother said she runs a fast food business at Sangakpham, Imphal East district.
