The guest faculties of Manipur University of Culture (MUC) along with the students of the varsity staged a sit-in protest on the university campus on Tuesday demanding the regularisation of 28 guest faculty members.
The protest, held under the banner of the Manipur University of Culture Guest Faculty Association (MUCGFA), also called for the appointment of a permanent registrar to replace the current bureaucrat holding the position.
MUCGFA president B Gopiraman Sharma criticised the current registrar, a government officer with multiple roles in other departments, claiming his dual responsibilities violate the MUC Act of 2015.
He further alleged that the registrar used inappropriate language when faculty members inquired about delayed pay, highlighting the need for a full-time, dedicated administrative team.
Appealing for the removal of bureaucratic officers from the university, he stated that MUC “is not a picnic spot for MCS cadres.”
In addition to regularisation, the protestors called for the appointment of key administrative positions, including a Finance Officer, Controller of Examination, and other regular staff to ensure the smooth functioning of the university.
