The Kom Students’ Union Manipur (KSUM) on Saturday felicitated successful students of Kom community in class 10 and 12 examinations from Sinamkom, Saikul, Thayong and greater Imphal area during a function at TRI in Imphal.
Speaking to the media, KSUM president Songlin Serto said that apart from encouraging the students in their studies, the programme aimed to let the youngsters become aware of Kom culture and literature, and help promote it.
“We also aim to let the students develop feelings of love for the tribal community with a sense of patriotism,” he added.
A blessing prayer for the students was administered by Imphal Theological College president and seminary Rev Wilson Telien. Various special numbers were performed by artistes such as M Darneiyang Kom, T Preety Kom, T Hatneihling Kom and M Rolish Kom.
The function was also attended by retired ICLS SR Kom as chief guest; general secretary of Kom Union Manipur (KUM) K Thangneikhup Kom, finance secretary of KUM Serto Rethatson Kom and advisor of KUM M Haopu Kom as guests of honour while president of KUM S Chungjahao Kom presided the function.
