Speaking to the media on the occasion, AMSU reaffirmed its stands to safeguard the integrity and rights of the people of Manipur, even to the extent of sacrificing their lives.

The death of four students during the August 1965 protest against the artificial famine created by the then government and merchants has given birth to AMSU, the oldest student's union in Manipur, AMSU president Chalamba Haobijam told the media.

From that very day since its establishment the student body has been taking active role in every social issue in the interest of the common people of the state.

AMSU will continue to remain a frontline in every state issue without any fear of losing lives following the footsteps of its past leaders, he said, calling on all the people of Manipur, "Let’s stay united and move towards a progressive society."

AMSU will not remain a silent spectator against any anti-social elements which challenges the integrity of Manipur, he said.

The programme was also attended by former president of AMSU RK Itocha; AMKIL advisor Khagembam Anandi; secretary general of UCM Ngangom Deba Meetei; and president of All Assam Manipuri Students' Union Ngasepam Sanahal among others.
