The activity was carried out in continuance of the movement to promote Meetei Mayek, stated MEELAL in a release. The event was held at Mayang Imphal, Charoibung UFO Office in Imphal West district, it added.

The programme saw participation from MEELAL working president Sh Tomba Mangang, Education Secretary, Paonam Thakaba Meetei, UFO president Yanglem Lolindro among others, it said. Many displaced victims in the area and UFO members attended the classes, it mentioned. Stationary items were also distributed to the participants, it stated.

MEELAL also vehemently condemned the recent viral post on social media which shows a group suspected to be of the Kuki community of Sadar Hills allegedly burning Meetei Mayek books and declaring that all Meetei products are banned in Sadar Hills.

The same is an insult to MEELAL’s years-long efforts for recognition and development of Meetei Mayek, it asserted and warned those concerned to withdraw such steps at the earliest. If provoked, MEELAL will give a befitting reply, it stated.

It urged the state government to book the culprits involved and take necessary legal actions against them, failing which it warned to carry out intense agitations against the government. It further appealed to all the communities in the state to respect each other’s culture, traditions, script, language etc.
