All Kha-Kanglei Students’ Union and students of Kakching Higher Secondary School unanimously demand to appoint regular teachers at the school by July 27, cautioning that class boycott will be initiated from July 29, if the authority concerned failed to fulfil their demands.
In a press meet, Salam Sonia, a student of the school, expressed disappointment over the shortage of teachers in the school which has adversely affected the education of over 1,000 enrolled students.
Meanwhile, Ksh National, general secretary of AKKSU, questioned the failure of the ‘School Fagat Hansi’ mission, despite the school’s enrollment exceeding 1,000 students. He stressed that the students continue to grapple with teacher shortages, posing significant challenges to the students’ education.
National highlighted that during an inspection by AKKSU, the team discovered a notable absence of teachers for subjects including Physics, History, Education, Economics, Geography, Manipuri, and English. He said that he would urge the concerned authorities to promptly appoint teachers for these subjects and assured that he will support the students in their protests.
He also pointed out the absence of school janitorial staff, as well as the inadequate condition of the school’s laboratory and library facilities. He drew the attention of authority concerned to address these issues at the earliest.
It may be recalled that Naorem Aiena, a student from the commerce stream at this school, secured the first position in the HSE examination conducted by COHSEM, bringing great prestige to all government schools.
