United Association of Recognised Schools of Manipur (UARSoM) has appealed to the state government to come up with a tentative dates for conducting Class X and Class XII examinations.

Postponing of class X and class XII examinations which are conducted by of the Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BOSEM) and Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur (COHSEM), respectively in view of sudden surge of COVID-19 positive cases in the state is welcomed, said UARSoM president Laishram Joy in a press conference held at Manipur Press Club on Thursday.

However, the move has caused fear and uncertainties among the minds of the students regarding their next examination schedule, he added. To avoid such inconveniences, the state government should declare at least a tentative date for holding the examination or inform about the conditions which may lead to their cancelation, he added.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has already notified to cancel its Class X examination and rescheduled the class XII examination in June in view of the pandemic situation. The Manipur government should act in a similar manner, he added. However, they should consult all the stakeholder particularly private schools if they are planning to cancel the examinations. It would help in figuring out the specific conditions of promoting students to next class, without affecting any sections, he added.

Regarding the order issued by the state government to suspend all the physical classes and conduct online classes, he said the association has been conducting online classes from before, and engaging all their faculties.  Therefore, the tuition fees will be collected for every month, he added.

He further said that online classes will be cancelled if any kind of complaints arise from any section on the ground of taking tuition fees. The state government should bring an amicable solution if such a situation happens, he said.

Joy also said that the state government allowing central schools to conduct school examinations and keep students in their boarding by allowing SoPs is unfortunate. The authority concerned should issue uniformed orders that can be followed by every institution, he added.
