Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) on Thursday demanded the authority concerned not to appoint unqualified teachers as a principal of DM College of Teacher Education (DMCTE). A release alleged that the only professional college of the state for teacher education, DMCTE is being administered by an unqualified principal.
As per norms of National Council for Teacher Education, 2014, the principal for any college of teacher education which has courses from B.Ed should be in the rank of professor, it said. Besides, he or she should also qualify, M.Ed courses, it added.
However, the present principal of DMCTE does not fulfill such requirements, DESAM alleged. It further alleged that said unqualified principal is aiming to merge DMCTE with the department of education of DM University. To translate the plan into action, the unqualified principal called an emergency meeting on June 5.
The principal issued a notice that the meeting was convened as per the order of education minister, the release said. However, it is believable as the education minister has discussed recruitment of regular faculty of DMCTE in cabinet meetings, the release stated.
DESAM demanded that if the meeting was conducted without the knowledge of the education minister, disciplinary action should be taken up against the principal.
The release said that since the inception of DESAM, the organisation has been emphasizing in promoting quality education. In the beginning of this year, DESAM already announced plans to keep vigil concerning the condition of the higher education system of the state, the release said. As such, various steps have been taken up and will continue to do so until quality education has been promoted in the state, it added.
