Demanding the concerned authorities to conduct the election of the student union, appoint registrar and deans of the university, students from different colleges under DMU protested in front of administrative block of the university located at Thangmeiband on Monday.

Speaking to the media, Kshetrimayum Medhajit of DM Arts 3rd semester said the students of the university have been demanding for the election of student union since November last year. However, the government has not done anything with regards to the demands, he added.

He said that as the concerned authorities have not conducted the election of the student union, the  Vice chancellor, registrar and other faculty members are not able to direct to conduct the election too. Moreover, as there is no student union in the university, the grievances of the students of the university are being neglected by the government, he added.

On February 5, a group of students met the VC of the university and the education minister during which they placed their demands for conducting student union’s election, appointment of regular registrar, deans and others. During the meeting with VC, he assured the students that the election process will be started within two days, he added.
Despite his assurance, no further process was started. Instead, the VC was out of station, including the responsible staff, when students came to enquire about their demands, said Medhajit.

He said if the concerned authority fails to meet their demands immediately, then the fate of students of the university might go in vain.
